About Us

Zamboni at Palouse Ice Rink

The Palouse Ice Rink opened in 2002 as a temporary facility — a bet that the Palouse community wanted a place to skate. Twenty-five seasons later, that bet has paid off beyond anyone’s wildest hopes. In December 2022, PIR opened a permanent, full-size ice rink in the former NRS building, made possible by the $1 million Hamilton Fund, the generosity of Bill and Donna Parks, and the support of donors across the region.

This year we celebrate our 25th Anniversary — a milestone that belongs to every skater, hockey player, figure skater, curler, volunteer, donor, and family that has called this rink home. We’re marking the occasion with our Silver Anniversary Fundraiser Gala on September 11, 2026. We hope to see you there.

Today, PIR is home to public skating, youth and adult hockey leagues, figure skating, curling, Learn-to-Skate classes, summer roller hockey, kids camp, and more. If it happens on ice — or on wheels — it happens here.

We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and one of the Palouse’s most active community gathering places. Whether you’re lacing up for the first time or logging your thousandth hour on the ice, you’re welcome here.
